A dictionary of different sounds
Ambient sound: Background sound.
Asynchronous: Sound that does not match the action on screen.
Diegetic: Sound visible on screen e.g door slamming.
Dialogue: Conversation between two or more characters
Foley: Sound recorded after film to create better sounds
Non-Diegetic: Sound that is put in after, during the editing stage.
Score: The soundtrack to the movie.
Song: Music in a scene.
Voiceover: Person speaking over the film who is not on camera.
Synchronous: Sound that matches the actions on screen.
Sound bridge: When the sound from the previous scene carries on to the next
Sound motif: Sound effect or combined with an action.
