14) Genre Conventions

Convention in media means the widely recognised way of doing something which is involved in the content, style and form. When looking at conventions of films, it is broken down into micro and macro elements.

Micro elements focuses on the camera, editing and the mise-en-scene. mise-en-scene is the location, props, makeup and costumes. This is effective to the film as it gives hints and clues to the audience as to what the film is about.
Macro elements focuses on the themes introduced and the characters. the theme introduced is important as it sets a tone to the film and creates an atmosphere. Characters are also important as they take part in creating the atmosphere.
