4 Types of Film Openings

There are 4 types of film openings. 

Titles on a blank screens: involves different kinds of typeface on black backgrounds. White typeface is usually used on black backgrounds to create high contrast. Many studios use them because they're low budget.

Titles on still images: are more elaborate.

Titles over moving images: incorporate credit titles with moving images behind it. The moving images offer either a 

  1. metaphor
  2. narrative thread

to help introduce tone or story lines

Titles using animation or motion: became popular in the 1990s. It became part of the moving image and requires a lot of digital technology and stylised editing.
