Prelim Evaluation
The preliminary task introduced by my teacher was to explore and try out different camera angles, shots and how we could introduce these techniques to the prelim video in preparation to future filming.
I found the making of the prelim video was reasonably successful. I think I contributed to quite a bit during the whole planning, making and editing process. We didn't use all the camera angles such as using the 180 degree rule and shot reverse shot. However, we did use a lot of match cuts, two shots and an over the shoulder shot, for example as Warren was about to sit down next to Sam in the "interview waiting room". When it came to editing, I found it quite easy as I've done editing for a previous video for my Weebly website. Our first match cut of the film, I found, was probably the most successful. I also think we weren't allocated a lot of time of filming as we had to do a lot of re-takes in the filming process.
If I was to make another video, I would want to put more effort into making it as well as contribute to the filming as I feel I haven't done enough. I would also want to add some techniques like the shot reverse shot and possibly add background music when editing.
Though it was supposed to be a 30 second video (edited to around 43 seconds), I still thought there was should have been more put into the the video.
The prelim video contained all the scenes drawn up in the storyboard with additional scenes included at the end, and all of the camera angles and shots. The storyboard is very important when it comes planning films as it helps the person filming get the shots looking as accurate as possible.
The whole experience of the planning, filming and editing is a really good introduction to the course.
