common features of a film opening

Forrest Gump

the opening to the film starts as a feather drift through the city, the feather out lines the set and the locations of the film. It also is signifying the most important location of the film.A light tone score is played in the background suggesting the film is joyful and happy.
The main character was introduced on the setting of a busy city at a bus stop, possible foreshadowing that the storyline would be a journey.
The story line was no yet told as the title sequence contained no dialogue and the ending was a bus entering the setting of the scene. We understand that he's travelling as he's (main character) is seen  with a bag of luggage waiting for a bus that had arrive at the end of the scene.
Title credits are used which clearly displays in bold white writing with stands out again the moving images showing the film name and actors in the film.
I could interpret the  genre of the film by the sound that that has been placed with the scene. The atmosphere was light heart and almost child manner by the main characters mannerism.

Skyfall

The opening scene start off with whom is assumed to be the main character drowning / sinking to the bottom of an ocean. The scene displays a vase ocean and the main character being drawing into a deep hole under water, it then goes into a CGI/animated graphics creating a very comical outset. the sound sets  a dark tone to the film and adds the element of danger. There is a strong action/gangster theme by the strong visuals of guns and poker/gambling being shown creating a strong sense of violence and suspense. I could also see a range of dark tone colors being used such as blue and red which creates a feeling of intense drama. the beginning of the opening sequence shown the main character being dragged down being life to a possible story line and the hand is large and the character is small compared to it.

The plot can be assumed that the main character is rich or well present as the costume is a suit, we can understand from the scene that the character is possible dead or had been killed as the scene later goes on to show the main character being shot at. The title credits are bold and the font is established to the brand of the franchise, it was bold against the dark tones as the font was clear and white which made it more visible. I could tell the genre of the film by the ambient sounds and the use of a dark bold color scheme which indicated to me that the film is and action related, the tone is mysterious and makes the audience more intrigued to watch the film.
